NATIONAL AIR TRANSPORTATION ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES TWO BLUE GRASS AIRPORT
AWARD RECIPIENTS
April 22, 2010 – Eric J. Frankl, A.A.E., executive director of Blue Grass Airport, and Arlynn McMahon, co-owner of Aero-Tech at Blue Grass Airport, were the recipient of this year’s National Air Transportation Association’s (NATA) Industry Excellence Awards. NATA, the voice of aviation business, is the public policy group representing the interests of aviation business before the Congress and federal agencies.
NATA annually recognizes exceptional individuals and organizations that have helped improve the general aviation community by providing excellence in their field and the highest level of customer service. Frankl and McMahon were honored at this year’s NATA Industry Excellence Awards Dinner on April 21 at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.
“The Airport Board and our community should be very proud of the caliber of individuals that represent Lexington on a national level in the aviation industry,” said Bobby Owens, chairman of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Airport Board. “It is remarkable that there are two award recipients from the same airport.”
Eric Frankl is this year’s recipient of the NATA Airport Executive Partnership Award, sponsored by Airport Business Magazine. The Airport Executive Partnership Award recognizes an airport manager for his outstanding efforts to foster relationships between aviation businesses and airport operators. Frankl demonstrated these skills as he successful partnered with the airport’s fixed-base operator, TAC Air, to create an environment where their business would be successful and poised for future growth.
“I am honored to receive this award as it is yet another reflection on the Board’s commitment to provide the best possible airport for central Kentucky,” said Eric Frankl, executive director of Blue Grass Airport. “In this case, we wanted to encourage development of corporate and general aviation at Blue Grass Airport. In turn, TAC Air invested $10 million in our community and is finishing construction of one of the best fixed-base operator facilities in the country.”
Arlynn McMahon was this year’s recipient for the Excellence In Pilot Training Award for her outstanding contributions in safety, professionalism, leadership and excellence in the field of pilot training. McMahon is co-owner of Aero-Tech, Inc., a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved flight school based at Blue Grass Airport. McMahon has Master Instructor status (held by less than 300 Certified Flight Instructors) and is responsible for all pilot training and flight activities. At Aero-Tech, she has helped more than 1,000 students and Certified Flight Instructors fulfill their dreams of flight. In 2009, McMahon was named as Flight Instructor of the Year by the FAA.
Blue Grass Airport, the Official Airport of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, is served by seven major airlines providing convenient non-stop serve to 13 major hub cities and connecting service to hundreds of destinations worldwide.
