Nonstop Service from Lexington, KY to Washington, DC Announced; Delta Connection to Begin Service June 16, 2004

Lexington, KY - Delta Air Lines today finalized plans for Lexington’s new nonstop service to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

The service will begin on June 15, 2004 and will utilize the popular 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet. Delta Connection will offer one daily round trip flight scheduled to provide the customer with the flexibility of conducting same-day business trips or extending trips over a number of days. With this announcement Delta and Delta Connection will offer 22 daily departures from Lexington to five nonstop destinations.

“Our community was successful in landing nonstop service to the nation’s capital in great measure to the efforts of Congressman Hal Rogers, the citizens of Lexington and dozens of Central and Eastern Kentucky companies that clearly demonstrated their willingness to write letters, make phone calls and partner with the airport to make this exciting service a reality,” said Michael Gobb, Executive Director, Blue Grass Airport.

Delta and Delta Connection are celebrating the start of this new service with a special $99 each way introductory fare (round-trip purchase required). This special fare is available for purchase until May 5, 2004, for travel on Delta's connecting and direct flights between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2004. Travel must be between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Lexington, Ky. A seven-day advance round-trip purchase is required. Some blackout dates apply. See below for other important restrictions.

“Non-stop jet service to our nation’s capital is in very high demand and we look forward to offering this important link to our customers in Lexington and Central Kentucky,” said Fred Buttrell, president and chief executive officer, Delta Connection Inc. “We also are very grateful to the government, business and civic officials who represent the Lexington region for supporting this service and helping make it available to Central Kentucky citizens.”

This service provided Lexington with its only direct jet access to the nation’s capital and the airport’s fourteenth nonstop destination.

Washington DC marks the seventh new nonstop destination introduced at Blue Grass Airport since 2000; doubling the airport’s nonstop access from 7 to 14 destinations in just four years. Washington DC has long been one of the most sought after destinations by the local business community and currently ranks as the airport’s seventh most popular destination.

Blue Grass Airport is served by six major airline brands providing convenient non-stop service to 14 major airports and direct service to destinations worldwide. In 2003, Blue Grass Airport served over 1.1 million passengers and was the sixth fastest growing airport in the nation.
