BLUE GRASS AIRPORT PROMOTES MARK DAY AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING AND MAINTENANCE

May 4, 2009 As part of an ongoing reorganization process, Blue Grass Airport has promoted its manager of engineering and construction, Mark Day, to the new position of deputy director of engineering and maintenance. In this new role, Day will supervise a department of 38 employees and will oversee all engineering and maintenance activities. In conjunction with this promotion and in an effort to streamline the organization, the manager of engineering and construction position will be eliminated.

As deputy director, Day will be responsible for the planning, design and coordination of capital improvement projects at the airport as well as technical maintenance, field maintenance and housekeeping.

“We are pleased to be making great strides in the airport’s reorganization plan,” said Eric Frankl, interim executive director of Blue Grass Airport. “Mark will be a key addition to the new management team. He has done a tremendous job managing previous airport construction projects, and we are confident that he will excel in this new position.”

Blue Grass Airport is in the midst of one of its busiest construction seasons in the airport’s history. Projects currently underway that Mark Day will oversee include a new crosswind runway for general aviation activity, a main entrance reflective of the Bluegrass region, interior terminal renovations and installation of a new electrical vault.

“From the beginning of this reorganization process, the Airport Board recognized that Mark Day demonstrated the experience, knowledge and leadership skills to successfully lead our engineering and maintenance division, which is overseeing more than $66,000,000 in construction projects in preparation for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games,” said Bobby Owens, Chairman of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Airport. “Mark has stepped up to this challenge during the last few months and has proved to be an effective and respected leader.”

Mark Day has served as Blue Grass Airport’s manager of engineering and construction since November 2006. He is a member of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), the world’s largest professional aviation association, and he participates as a member of the Bluegrass Chapter for the American Society of Professional Engineers.

Prior to his position at Blue Grass Airport, Day provided engineering experience in the public and private sectors. He had managed a wide variety of aviation projects ranging from planning and design to construction. These projects have included runways, taxiways, paving, navigational aids, lighting and utilities. Mark Day has earned a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Southern Baptist Seminary and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky.
