PASSENGER VOLUME AT BLUE GRASS AIRPORT OUTPACES NATIONAL AVERAGE; ACTIVITY UP 20% IN 2003

Lexington, KY - Passenger activity at Lexington ’s Blue Grass Airport continues to increase at a faster rate than at most airports in the nation. During the month of April 2003 the airport reported passenger activity 15% higher than the same month last year. For the first four months of 2003 passenger activity has increased by over 20%. In contrast, domestic activity in the U.S. decreased by 5.8% in April 2003 and for the first four months remains 2.9% lower than last year.

Despite a decline in business travel nationwide, the war in Iraq , security alerts and airline schedule reductions Lexington ’s Blue Grass Airport has been successful in lowering fares, attracting new service and increasing passenger activity.

As a result of the airport’s efforts to stimulate competition average air fares in the Lexington market have dropped by over 11% in the last 12 months. Since August 2002, the airport has also introduced new nonstop flights to Chicago , IL , Dallas , TX and New York , NY .

In addition to air service development, Blue Grass Airport has piloted a number of significant security programs designed to provide the highest level of safety and convenience to the customer. Programs include the installation of one of only five true “in-line” baggage screening facilities in the nation, the introduction of a second checkpoint screening lane and leading edge technology “behind the scenes”. Blue Grass Airport also continues to be one of the permanent test sites for new security technology for the Safe Skies Alliance and has been recently named a “model” for security programs at small and medium sized airports across the nation.
