BLUE GRASS AIRPORT PROMOTES SCOTT LANTER AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND OPERATIONS

June 2, 2009 As part of an ongoing reorganization process, Blue Grass Airport has promoted its chief of public safety, Scott Lanter, as the new deputy director of public safety and operations. In this new role, Lanter will supervise a department of 28 employees and will oversee all public safety and operation activities. The airport will combine the chief of public safety and deputy director of operations into one position in an effort to streamline the organization.

As deputy director, Lanter will be responsible for overseeing airport operations, law enforcement, aircraft rescue/fire fighting and airport communications. He will coordinate all safety and operational activities with external agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration, Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, Federal Secret Service, airlines, tenants and other organizations.

“This promotion is another step in Blue Grass Airport’s ongoing reorganization plan,” said Eric Frankl, interim executive director of Blue Grass Airport. “By combining the public safety and operation management positions, the airport will increase efficiency of the organization and better utilize the capabilities of our staff.”

“The Airport Board has great confidence in Scott Lanter’s leadership skills and is looking forward to his success in this new role,” said Bobby Owens, chairman of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Airport. “His extensive knowledge of airport operations, emergency management practices and law enforcement are invaluable to the airport.”

Scott Lanter joined Blue Grass Airport in June 1987 and has served as chief of public safety since July 2001. He is certified by the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a professional fire fighter, police officer, fire service instructor and emergency medical technician. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy and the Department of Criminal Justice Training’s School of Strategic Leadership. He has earned a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Police Studies from Eastern Kentucky University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire and Safety Engineering.

“I am both humbled and honored to have been selected to serve as the deputy director of public safety and operations,” said Scott Lanter. “I would like to thank Mr. Frankl and the Airport Board for their confidence. I would also like to sincerely thank the extraordinary group of people I work with every day.”

Blue Grass Airport, the official airport of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, is served by six major airline brands providing convenient non-stop service to 12 major hub cities with direct service to hundreds of destinations worldwide. The airport proudly serves over one million central and eastern Kentucky travelers each year.
