DESHA'S AMERICAN TAVERN OPENS AT
BLUE GRASS AIRPORT
July 8, 2008 Blue Grass Airport is pleased to announce the opening of deSha’s American Tavern, a full-service restaurant modeled after deSha’s restaurant in downtown Lexington. Located on the second floor of the terminal and behind security checkpoint, deSha’s will bring local Kentucky flavors to travelers.
“The opening of deSha’s at Blue Grass Airport will provide our passengers with a high-quality meal in a comfortable environment,” said Michael Gobb, executive director of Blue Grass Airport. “Visitors to our region can sample the delicious foods that make the Bluegrass unique and local residents will enjoy the cuisine they have come to appreciate from deSha’s.”
Items on the deSha’s menu include Kentucky favorites such as Hot Browns, Woodford Reserve BBQ Chicken and Derby Pie as well as popular restaurant items including Pub Wings, Fish & Chips, Buffalo Chicken Salad, hamburgers and various sandwiches. A full breakfast menu is also available and includes omelets, pancakes, French toast, breakfast sandwiches, burritos and more.
“deSha’s is pleased to be participating in bringing Kentucky traditions to Blue Grass Airport,” said Tavern Restaurant Group and deSha’s owner, Nick Sanders. “In 1957 and 1958, deSha’s briefly operated the restaurant at Blue Grass Airport, so it will be an exciting venture for us to return.”
The original deSha’s restaurant opened its doors in downtown Lexington in 1955, where it operated until 1959. For two of those years (1957-58), they also operated the restaurant at Blue Grass Airport. In 1985, the reincarnation of deSha’s occurred downtown at Main and Broadway, across from Rupp Arena only a few short blocks from its original location, where it stills operates today. Now today, 50-plus years later, deSha’s has once again returned to Blue Grass Airport.
These new restaurant facilities will be operated by one of the world’s leading food and beverage brands in the world, SSP America. SSP America recently opened Quiznos, Knob Creek Bourbon Lounge and Caffé Ritazza at Blue Grass Airport.
