BLUE GRASS AIRPORT’S DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS ELECTED FIRST VICE PRESIDENT OF AAAE, GREAT LAKES
August 29, 2008 Blue Grass Airport’s Director of Operations, John Coon, AAE, has been elected First Vice President of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), Great Lakes Chapter. AAAE is the world’s largest professional aviation association. The Great Lakes Chapter includes over 400 airport administrators and representatives of service and professional firms serving airports from 12 mid-western states and two Canadian Provinces.
“We are pleased John Coon has been recognized for the talent, knowledge and expertise he brings to the aviation community,” said Bernie Lovely, Jr., chairman of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Airport Board. “His accomplishments at Blue Grass Airport have been instrumental in positioning Blue Grass Airport as a model airport nationwide. We are fortunate to have him as a valuable member of our team.”
John Coon has served as Blue Grass Airport’s Director of Operations since 1999 and is admired among his team and co-workers for his strong leadership skills. He is responsible for all airport security, public safety, maintenance and operations and manages a team of 64 employees.
Prior to his position at Blue Grass Airport, Coon served as Airport Manager for Wexford County Airport in Cadillac, Michigan and the Assistant Airport Director for Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management from Western Michigan University.
