Blue Grass Airport to Host Public Information
Workshop for Replacement Runway
Lexington, KY - The Lexington-Fayette Urban County
Airport Board (LFUCAB) will hold a Public Information Workshop
for the initial phase of an Environmental Assessment of proposed
runway improvements to Blue Grass Airport, located in Lexington,
Kentucky. The workshop is scheduled to be held on Tuesday,
September 27, 2005 from 5:30-7:30 pm at Paul Laurence Dunbar
High School, located at 1600 Man-O-War Boulevard, Lexington,
KY 40513.
One of the key recommendations of the updated 20-year Master
Plan for Blue Grass Airport adopted in 2004 was the replacement
of the airport's 3,500 foot long crosswind runway (Runway
8-26) with a relocated and realigned 3,500 foot long Runway
9-27 (east-west orientation). The proposed replacement runway
would be located to the west of the airport's main runway
and in the general vicinity of the western half of the existing
crosswind Runway 8-26, which would be closed. Before realignment
of the runway can begin, the project must undergo an environmental
review by the Federal Aviation Administration. The purpose
of the workshop is to provide information on the proposed
project, review the environmental process and listen to public
comments. The proposed replacement runway is not intended
for scheduled airline use, but will continue to serve general
aviation aircraft.
Although the Public Information Workshop will be held in an
informal open house format, a brief presentation will be provided
at 6:00 pm. Representatives from the Airport and the Study
Team will be available throughout the evening to talk with
citizens about the environmental review. Graphics will be
on display so citizens can review presentation details and
there will be an opportunity to submit written or oral comments.
