THE TRIANGLE FOUNDATION UNVEILS BRONZE HORSE SCULPTURES AT BLUE GRASS AIRPORT

October 21, 2008 – The Triangle Foundation unveiled its latest community initiative at Blue Grass Airport today. Bronze equine sculptures created by world-renowned artist Gwen Reardon can now be found in a “paddock” located in between the airport’s terminal and rental car facility.

The paddock area consists of three walking rings designed to replicate Keeneland’s Paddock. Keeneland donated synthetic pavers and landscaping elements and The Triangle Foundation engaged Gwen Reardon to create life-size bronze sculptures that now occupy the three walking rings. Locally, Gwen Reardon is well known for the thirteen bronze thoroughbred horses she created in downtown Lexington’s Thoroughbred Park.

“This bronze equine exhibit at Blue Grass Airport exemplifies The Triangle Foundation’s mission of using private funds to create public spaces for the benefit of Lexington and to welcome all those who visit our wonderful city,” says Alex Campbell Jr., Founder and Chairman Emeritus.

The Triangle Foundation was established in 1980 by Mr. Alex Campbell Jr. and a group of community leaders to develop Triangle Park, located in the heart of downtown Lexington. Over the years, the Triangle Foundation has expanded its membership to include over 100 board members whose generous donations to the foundation help fund the Triangle Foundation’s project. The mission of the foundation is to initiate private projects for public benefit. Since the creation of Triangle Park, the foundation has developed Thoroughbred Park and the Skateboard Park at Woodland Park, along with several other important community projects.

“This paddock area at Blue Grass Airport is going to be one of the first impressions visitors experience when arriving to our region,” said Michael Gobb, executive director at Blue Grass Airport. “Visitors will quickly realize the importance of the thoroughbred horse to our community and will gain insight into what makes our region so unique and attractive. We are so fortunate to be the recipient of these beautiful sculptures from our generous partners at The Triangle Foundation and Keeneland.”

The bronze horse exhibit is one of several projects Blue Grass Airport has planned to complete prior to the 2010 World Equestrian Games. Plans are currently underway to reconstruct the front entryway of Blue Grass Airport so it resembles the region’s prestigious horse farm entrances, incorporating brick masonry walls, limestone capping, dry-stacked stone walls and lush landscaping.

Blue Grass Airport, the official airport of the 2010 World Equestrian Games, is served by seven major airline brands providing convenient non-stop service to 13 major hub cities with direct service to hundreds of destinations worldwide. The airport proudly serves over one million central and eastern Kentucky travelers each year.
