BLUE GRASS AIRPORT AWARDS TAC AIR
FIXED-BASE OPERATOR CONTRACT
November 19, 2008 Today, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Airport Board awarded a 10-year concession agreement to TAC Air to provide fixed-base operations to general aviation customers at Blue Grass Airport.
As a fixed-base operator, TAC Air provides ramp service for private aircraft, sale and dispensing of aviation fuel, aircraft storage and tie-down spaces and aircraft, engine and accessory maintenance. TAC Air manages a general aviation terminal that serves as its operational base for serving the needs of those traveling on private and corporate aircraft. With the award of the new concession agreement, TAC Air will make a $11.5 million investment in airfield improvements including building a new executive terminal with a large passenger lobby, two conference rooms with state-of-the-art equipment, a gift store and art gallery, upscale food offering, movie theater, exercise facility, pilot lounge, quiet room and flight planning area. In addition, 45,000 square feet of new hangar space will be built.
“These new facilities will provide Blue Grass Airport’s general aviation customers with a high-quality travel experience,” said Michael Gobb, executive director at Blue Grass Airport. “For the past 12 years, TAC Air has served our customers with excellent hospitality, a vast array of amenities and strong expertise in the general aviation industry.”
TAC Air has operated at Blue Grass Airport since 1996—longer than any other FBO that has operated at Blue Grass Airport. It has become experienced in the unique operational challenges associated with many local events including Keeneland spring and fall racing meets, yearling sales and broodmare sales, the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, University of Kentucky sporting events, the Kentucky Derby and the Breeder’s Cup.
“We have enjoyed being a part of the aviation community of Central Kentucky over the last 12 years,” said Danny Walsh, Vice President at TAC Air. “The relationships we have developed with the Airport Board, airport staff as well as our loyal customers will only be strengthened over the coming years. I would like to thank the TAC Air Lexington team for their tireless efforts in making this one of the premier locations in the nation.”
TAC Air, a division of Truman Arnold Companies, operates 12 fixed-base operator facilities nationwide. In addition to TAC Air, Blue Grass Airport is also home to a second fixed-base operator—Air 51.
Blue Grass Airport, the official airport of the 2010 World Equestrian Games, is served by seven major airline brands providing convenient non-stop service to 13 major hub cities with direct service to hundreds of destinations worldwide. The airport proudly serves over one million central and eastern Kentucky travelers each year.
