Low-Cost Airline Announces Move To
Orlando International Airport:
Celebrates With Introductory $57.99* Fares
December 1, 2009 – Central Kentucky residents will soon arrive closer to the magic of Orlando, as low-cost airline, Allegiant Air, LLC, today announces it will move its low-cost, nonstop, jet service to Orlando International Airport (MCO) beginning Feb. 1, 2010. Previously, the carrier provided nonstop service from Lexington, Ky. to Orlando via the Orlando-Sanford International Airport. The low-fare carrier will celebrate the convenient new service with introductory fares as low as $57.99* each way, when purchased at an Allegiant Air airport ticket counter.
Robert Ashcroft, vice president of planning for Allegiant Air, said, “Moving service from Orlando-Sanford to Orlando International accomplishes two things for Allegiant. First, it allows us to be responsive to the many Central Kentucky travelers who prefer the proximity of Orlando International to the most prominent attractions in the Orlando area, including, most obviously, Walt Disney World. Second, it improves our position relative to competitors with service to Orlando International.”
The flights will operate four times weekly between Blue Grass Airport and Orlando International Airport with service Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Beginning Feb. 1, flights will depart Lexington at 4:45 p.m. arriving in Orlando at 6:35 p.m. Flights will depart Orlando at 2:10 p.m. arriving in Lexington at 4:05 p.m. (all flight times are local). Allegiant Air also provides nonstop service from Lexington to the Tampa Bay, Fla. area.
“This is a great change that will offer the Allegiant passengers a more convenient access to one of our most popular destinations,” Eric Frankl, executive director of Blue Grass Airport, said.
With plenty of shopping, dining, outdoor activities and entertainment, Orlando offers vacationers the perfect getaway. Located in the heart of Central Florida, Orlando is home to the world’s most exciting theme parks including Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld. Orlando’s famousInternational Drive is more than 10 miles long and features more than 100 hotels, 450 stores, several attractions and two major outlet malls. Orlando is also home to more than 175 golf courses, many of which were designed by pro golfers such as Greg Norman, Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
More than an airline, Allegiant offers low-cost hotel packages with more than 60 resorts in the greater Orlando area, including properties located within minutes of popular theme parks. Partner properties include: Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, the Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort, Royal Plaza in the Walt Disney Resort, Regal Sun Resort, Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando Resort, Holiday Inn Hotel at Universal Orlando Resort, Renaissance Orlando Resort and SeaWorld and Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando at SeaWorld. Air/hotel packages are available for as low as $171.98**. (Price is per person, based on a two-night hotel stay at the Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista, double occupancy and reflects a Monday, Wednesday or Friday arrival and a Wednesday, Friday or Sunday departure.) Allegiant’s $57.99* one-way introductory fare is limited, must be purchased by Dec. 16, 2009 and is valid for travel through May 31, 2010. Introductory fares are not available on all flights.After the introductory fare period, regular one-way fares on the route start as low as $77.99 one-way.
