Blue Grass Airport Sets New All-Time Record;
Lucky Customer Becomes Airport's 1.1 Millionth Passenger in
2003
Lexington , KY Blue Grass Airport today set
a new all-time record for annual passenger activity with over
1.1 million passengers served during 2003. Lexington's airport
is now on track to post a 20% increase in passenger activity
by the end of the year. The previous record of 1,080,000 passengers
was set in 1997.
Blue Grass Airport has experienced unprecedented growth in
recent years resulting in the addition of six new destinations
by four different airlines, a 30% increase in daily flights
and an overall decrease in average fares of 22% since 2000.
In fact, since 2001, Blue Grass has ranked among the fastest
growing airports in the nation in terms of new air service
and passenger growth.
"In 2003, Blue Grass Airport will handle more passengers
and serve more destinations than at any time in the 57 year
history of the airport. Despite an overall decline in airline
travel nationally, a slow economy and heightened security
measures Blue Grass Airport has prospered. This speaks volumes
for the opportunities available to businesses in Central Kentucky,"
said airport Executive Director, Michael Gobb.
To commemorate the new record Blue Grass Airport surprised
the lucky record-breaking passenger by presenting a fabulous
vacation prize package including roundtrip airfare to Orlando
, FL , and a three night stay at the famous Walt Disney World
Resort.
Blue Grass Airport is served by six major airline brands providing
convenient non-stop service to 13 major hub airports and direct
service to destinations worldwide.
