Blue Grass Airport is launching Future LEX, a multi-phase development program designed to enhance the passenger experience and support long-term growth. This initiative reflects a commitment to simplicity, hospitality and ease, ensuring the experience travelers value most remains at the core as the airport grows. It focuses on building for tomorrow while staying true to what defines the airport today.
Passenger demand at Blue Grass Airport continues to rise as airlines introduce larger aircraft, expand routes and increase frequency. To meet this growth, LEX will undergo an investment nearing $500 million over the next five years, with total costs to be refined as planning progresses.
Delivered in phases as part of a broader long-term program spanning the next decade, these improvements will position the airport to accommodate demand, with annual enplanements projected to nearly double by 2045.
The initial phases of Future LEX focus on essential infrastructure improvements that create the space needed for terminal expansion while enhancing daily operations. These projects will:

Future LEX reflects a clear commitment that, as Blue Grass Airport grows, the qualities passengers value most remain the same. By protecting what makes the airport special and thoughtfully building for the future, LEX will continue to deliver a travel experience that feels easy, welcoming and distinctly Blue Grass.

The timing and importance of major enhancements ahead present an ideal opportunity to launch a new visual identity and say farewell to the bugler logo that has represented Blue Grass Airport for the last 50 years.
This new logo is guided by our mission statement, “A welcoming approach connecting Kentucky and the world.” It is inspired by the beauty of our landscape and what our passengers see and comment about on their approach into Lexington—the gently rolling hills of our region and the equine and bourbon heritage they support.
We have incorporated LEX, our airport identifier, along with an aircraft taking off, symbolizing the forward momentum of Blue Grass Airport as we begin the largest construction project in the airport’s history.
