Blue Grass Airport Completes Significant Parking Expansion

Lexington, KY—July 1, 2026—Blue Grass Airport (LEX) has completed and opened its new long-term parking expansion, adding 815 additional parking spaces just in time for the peak summer travel season. This addition is in response to increasing passenger volume and is a component of the airport’s Future LEX multi-phase development program.

The parking project included several improvements designed to increase parking capacity, enhance passenger convenience and improve traffic flow to and from the terminal. Specific elements of the expansion include:

  • Reconfiguration of the Terminal Drive loop
  • Addition of 815 long-term parking spaces
  • Construction of a second covered walkway to the terminal
  • Development of a new exit plaza with an additional exit lane to accommodate passenger volume during peak flight arrival times
  • Installation of two emergency call stations in passenger parking areas
  • Construction of a new employee parking lot and an underground utility corridor

“At Blue Grass Airport, every improvement we make is centered on our passengers and preserving the airport experience they know and appreciate,” said Eric Frankl, president & CEO of Blue Grass Airport. “These parking enhancements provide greater convenience, easier access to the terminal and more flexibility for travelers and their families. As we continue to grow, our commitment remains the same: ensuring every trip through Blue Grass Airport remains simple, welcoming and stress-free.”

This parking expansion is one of the first visible examples of the Future LEX program, which will deliver approximately $500 million in investment through its initial phases over the next five years. Beyond the additional parking, this program will ultimately lead to an expanded and relocated rental car garage, new support facilities and a terminal expansion that includes a new concourse. While the airport expands its facilities to serve its growing traveler base, Blue Grass Airport will ensure the LEX approach to passenger experience and convenience remains stronger than ever.
